Saturday @ William B. Umstead State Park

 8:30 a.m.

Location: Umstead Park, Cary, 27513. Harrison Avenue entrance. From I-40, take the Harrison Ave exit. From the West, turn left on Harrison. From the East, turn right on Harrison. Follow Harrison into the park. We meet in the middle of the parking lot.

Route: We aim to run at least 10 miles, often running just that distance. You are welcome to turn back early for a shorter distance. Depending on the route, we could run up to 12 miles, but that doesn't happen very often. We run on Multi-Use-trails (MUT) and/or Single Track trails, depending on who shows up. The single track can be difficult as you traverse over roots and rocks. Both types of trails have hills. We usually ascend close to or over 1,000'.

The route is announced just before starting to run. If you decide to depart from the group during the run, please let me know so that I do not look for you once I notice you are missing.

Pace: Your pace in Umstead will be much slower (as much as 2 min/mile) than your pace on asphalt due to roots, rocks, hills, heat, and humidity. Our pace can range from 10 – 14:30 minutes/mile.

Notes:

  • We stop at large intersections to make sure we have everyone, so do not expect a continuous run.
  • We typically are back to our cars a little after (or well after) 11:00.
  • Please bring water to carry during the run. I try to get us to water fountains, but the timing may not be when you need water, and sometimes the fountains are not operating.
  • We usually go out for lunch afterwards, so if interested, bring money, a dry set of clothes, shoes, and a towel.
